*This year's Flag Retirement - September 13, 2009 *

This year we are proud to be celebrating our Fourth year of our Flag Retirement Ceremony. This ceremony was presented to the cemetery by local veterans as a service that we could provide to the community while performing a necessary and needed ritual. Once a flag is no longer fit to be flown it is to be ceremoniously burned as a means of proper retirement. This ceremony has grown each year with the proper retirement of over 2,000 flags last year.

The service is open to the public and held rain or shine. People are welcome to bring lawn chairs or blankets for the ceremony. The public is also welcome to drop off flags throughout the year at Schuylkill Memorial Park, we ask that you limit the number brought the day of the ceremony.
